For both the beginning and seasoned preacher, an important question to ask is: what kind of a listener to sermons am I?
When I hear someone preach, what do I hope for as the preacher begins? Do I hope to learn something? Feel something? Do I hope to be educated or inspired? And how do the answers to these questions consciously or unconsciously inform my own sermon writing process? What kinds of questions can I ask of the biblical text that will help me explore its meaning and significance in our lives?
This 1 ½ hour workshop will be led by Rev. Dr. Mary Donovan Turner who is a retired Professor of Preaching from Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley. Her longtime interests are preaching from Old Testament narratives and encouraging people to find voice in the church, the pulpit, and in the wider community.
