Ministerial Call and Placement (contact Reverend Cole at cliff@ccncn.org) Ordained ministers with standing must first enter the Search and Call system of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) to be considered as a pastor in one of the region’s 69 churches. The process is begun through the MinPro system of the denomination and contact information is through the Office of Search and Call in
Procedures in the If a pastor is not ordained in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and/or does not have standing in the region where he/she is currently pastoring, he/she should contact Reverend Tom Harshman (tom.harshman@chw.edu), the Chair of Recognition and Standing for the region. This committee is responsible for verifying standing of ministerial candidates. When a pastor receives standing in the region or wishes to transfer it from another region, and is authorized by the Recognition and Standing Committee to do so, he/she is eligible to enter Search and Call. Reverend Cole reviews all eligible profiles in the Search and Call system on a regular basis and, as appropriate, or as requested by a candidate, forwards profiles to search committees. Candidates may not forward their profile directly to a search committee. Training and Care (contact Reverend Cole at cliff@ccncn.org) Training and Care, (also known as the Commission on Ministry in other regions), meets regularly with students attending seminary, most often matriculating through one of the Graduate Theological Union schools of Berkeley. The Pacific School of Religion (PSR) is the seminary of the eight in the GTU where most of the students matriculate. A student who is enrolled in a Masters of Divinity (M.Div.) degree must enter Training and Care to be ordained. Requirements of the committee include, but are not limited to, a spiritual autobiography, one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education, a psychological evaluation, a sponsorship by at least one Disciples of Christ congregation, an ordination paper, a verified assimilation of “16 Competencies” (effective in November, 2011) and a recommendation for ordination from the committee. A “Welcome Packet” that outlines the complete program, scholarship assistance and other helpful information is available upon request from Reverend Clifford Cole, Regional Minister for Placement, Training and Care (cliff@ccncn.org).
